在同学们的练习中,常有标点符号错误。最常见的标点符号错误是comma split 和 书名号张冠李戴。以下是几个例子,其中TT1 有错,TT2为修改本。
(a) Comma split:
ST:

卡尼今年47岁,牛津大学毕业。
|
TT1:
|
Carney is 47 years old, he is an Oxford graduate. (英文不错,但是标点符号用错,不能得满分。)

TT2:
|
Carney is 47 years old,
and he is an Oxford
graduate. (加个‘and’就行了。或者把逗号改成句号。)
|
ST:
|
不会说普通话,有口难言,就不用找领导、找女人了。
|
TT1a:
|
do not speak Mandarin, having a mouth difficult
to speak, thus, do not use to look for leader、look for women. (稀泥糊涂的拼凑。零分。)
|
TT1b:
|
As I do not speak Mandarin, I cannot communicate
with others, thus, I have an excuse for not trying to get close to the
leaders or please women. (造句不错,可惜在‘thus’前用了逗号,没有用句号。要扣分。)

TT2:
|
As I do not speak
Mandarin, I cannot communicate with others. Thus, I have an excuse for not
trying to get close to the leaders or please women. (这个译法较好,标点也用得不错。)

ST:
|
我的夫人是上海人,她在上海有成功的事业。(中文的paratactic sentences 可以用逗号来断句。)

TT1:
|
My wife is from Shanghai,
she has a successful business in Shanghai.
(在英文里,不能用逗号将两个结构完整的独立句子分开。)

TT2:
|
My wife is living in Shanghai where
she has a successful business. (不错!用a hypotactic sentence 来对译 a
paratactic sentence.)
|
TT3:
|
My wife is living in Shanghai, and
she has a successful business. (不错!用a paratactic sentence 来对译 a
paratactic sentence, 而且在逗号后面加了'and'.)
|
ST:
|
你姓周,你的表兄不一定姓周。
|
TT1:
|
Your surname is Zhou, your elder male maternal cousin is not
necessarily a Zhou.
|
TT2:
|
Your surname is Zhou, but
your elder male maternal cousin is not necessarily a Zhou. (加个‘but’就行了。或者把逗号改成句号。)
|
ST:
|
你姓周,你的堂兄也同样姓周。
|
TT1:
|
Your surname is Zhou, likewise your elder male
paternal cousin is a Zhou. (‘Likewise’是副词,不是连词,不能连句。)
|
TT2:
|
Your surname is Zhou.
Likewise your elder male maternal cousin is a Zhou. (‘Likewise’被当作副词用,这样,它前面要句号。)
|
(b) 书名号张冠李戴
ST:
|
今年二月份国务院印发了新的《公务接待管理规定》。
|
TT1:
|
In February, the State Council issued a new edition of 《Guidelines on publicly funded business reception》. (英文里没有“《》”。)
|
TT2:
|
The State Council issued a new edition of Guidelines on publicly funded business reception in February. (书名号印刷用斜体, 手写划下横线,如:Guidelines on publicly
funded business reception。如果是书中的章节或报刊上的文章则用单引号。)

|
最近,我在2014年2月20日的《东方日报》上读到有关贵公司招聘办公室秘书的信息, 特来申请。

vacancy of an administrator in <Oriental Daily> of 20 September, 2012. ( (英文里不用尖括号“<>”来标志书名。)

I am writing to apply for the admin job that you
advertised in the Oriental Daily on February 20, 2014. (一份报纸如同一本书,印刷用斜体,手书划底横线,如: Oriental Daily, 或 Oriental Daily 。)
